Exercise: Grab a book, open it randomly and draw out the second sentence.

I only have textbooks in proximity so I reached further to grab Brave New World. ahaha Obviously John was not the cat, but anyway. I played with some animal designs and just settled on a cat (so  easy and such fickle creatures). Then I made a “her” (recycling designs from my oc tumblr). After getting the chars down, I played with some composition ideas of this “her” beckoning “John”. I liked the library one because libraries have a lot of straight lines, and naturally bring out characters with curves… or so it seems, you tell me ;9

moshi-shi asked: I really enjoy staring at your little lizard type creatures!~ They're really cute! Especially the seasons ones and the one that is swimming in the water! <3

thank youuuu

mi-an-dae asked: any tips with anatomy ? and how did u develop ur "style" with characters ? thanks :)

oh this is a big ask… ahaha

For anatomy, it’s a lot of practice, and observation. There are a lot of sites for practicing proportions and poses like posemaniac and pixelovely. In more technical terms, knowing the muscle work itself is very useful! I was lucky to have studied anatomy (not for art - and I’m a little rusty). Getting anatomy right requires a lot of reviewing at times!

I’m not sure how I actually developed a style. I still feel like my style is kind of generic - well it is… I think style comes from practice and lots of drawing. It’s more like an amalgamation of styles you like. Developing style shouldn’t be a priority over getting foundations right first though. It’s important to have a good notions of the “rules” in order to break them (wish I had that tbh). Hope this helps ;7;//!

though it doesn’t look great, it was a nice exercise!

i think most people know by now that i had a tiny get away in Toronto this week. I went to the ROM (notBMOorz) and did some sketching. My goal visiting was sketching, not looking at specimens in detail. I wasn’t there for long so I didn’t purchase the Dino exhibition special, though I wish I had more time to do it T-T;; anyway I always love their dino mounts! they’re very impressive!!

Also went through the batcave this time (i seemed to have missed it last time?!) I enjoyed it a lot. At one point, I was considering studying chiropterans for a master degree ahaha

birds are hard to draw

postcards scanned - tried out various widths of pens and stuff

yeah i know i gotta stop posting orz … finished my sketchpad… getting a sketchbook this week!! wooo
